Embedded Systems Software Engineer
Summary of Duties:
You will design and write application level embedded software for our state of the art wireless products. Using industry standard SDKs on the world’s most highly integrated silicon your task is to create superior product functionality.
Strong teamwork is an important aspect of what we do and in most cases you will work with software or hardware engineers as part of a multidisciplinary project team. You will participate in meetings with clients and prospects from time-to-time and have the opportunity to travel to Europe and Asia.
We define embedded software as software that functions at the electronics/software boundary and/or in a constrained environment (e.g. tight memory, low power).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Responsible for architectural design of complete sub-systems and the delivery of fully tested code
• Responsible for carrying out your specific project tasks within the timescales and budgets agreed with your project managers
• Acting in various other Product Development roles; including project management, technical lead and sales roles.
• High quality work is essential from every team member.
Skills and Abilities Needed:
- Bachelor’s degree in electronic engineering or computer science; Master’s degree is a plus
- Strong C coding skills in an embedded development environment
- Appreciation of both hardware and software
- Experience in DSP and audio sound required
- Experience with battery powered devices a plus
- Experience with low power (8/16 bit CPU)
- Wireless Bluetooth experience a plus
- Experience working with Consumer Electronics or Wireless Communication Systems
- Experience in communications software is a plus
- Understanding of source control
We need people to help the development of Aliph products. Our general method of operation is to leverage other outside groups to perform much of our product development. We generally specify and direct their activity. We also fill-in the experience/task gaps as required to get the job done. This operational method means that we generally need more senior individuals with a combination of architectural, management and hands on skills.
The ‘embedded’ skill space is very … very broad. It covers everything from a supercomputer to a simple light bulb controller. To get the right people means focusing on the right skill set. The skill set is generally based on the relative size of the computer used. Our computers are on the very small side of the embedded world.
Important skill area for our products include the following:
- Low power 8/16 bit CPUs. This means restricted memory availability and a whole different mindset toward programming.
- C programming as the dominant tool (with some assembler).
- Strong hardware background required even for software programmers. The software is very close to the hardware in our applications.
- Wireless and Bluetooth experience a very strong plus.
- Experience in battery powered devices.
- Experience in Analog to Digital Conversion (and the convers, Digital to Analog Conversion).
- Experience in handset telephony.
- Experience in DSP.
- Experience in audio sound.
We are looking for people to focus in several areas:
1. Embedded Software Development
2. Embedded Hardware Development |
