 ed in the theater.\n\nPaul McCartney
\, sitting in a plane waiting to re
turn to his native England\, saw th
e smoke rising from the Twin Tower
 s on Sept. 11\, 2001. The son of a
 volunteer firefighter during the G
erman Blitz of World War II\, McCar
tney was moved to assemble an all-
star concert in honor of New York
 City’s surviving first responder
s and the families of those who pe
rished at the World Trade Center.
 \n\nThe forthcoming behind-the-scene
s DVD The Love We Make\, chronicles
  the rehearsals\, interviews and da
y-to-day events leading up to an e
 vent eventually dubbed the Concert
For New York City\, a gala event a
 t Madison Square Garden featuring
 the Who\, Billy Joel\, Jay-Z\, David
 Bowie\, Eric Clapton\, Elton John\, t
he Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger a
nd Keith Richards. \n\nThe film make
 s clear\, from the first\, just how
deeply touched McCartney was — a
nd on a very personal level — by
  the devastating terror attacks. \n
 “I started thinking what can I d
 o\,” he says\, “because there’
s going to be a spirit shift in Ne
w York and America. This is sudden
ly a place where people are going
to feel vulnerable\, for first time
in a long time. Being born at end
of World War II\, I was only a bab
y then\, but I grew up in the shado
w of that. All my parents and the
grown ups talked about was this id
ea of being in a war. You saw how
they dealt with this. It was with
humor\; it was with music. That’s
how they dealt with it.” \n\nBio\n
